Shift to Software Licensing Creates Boom for Young Company

Ion adjusted its business strategy in August to meet demand from new customers and the results have been quite remarkable.

When Ion Concert Media was founded in 2014 its business model was built around selling subscriptions to Muséik (its proprietary software) and renting content that could be driven on the platform. In the past year that business model has been challenged as a growing number of content owners and show producers have asked to use the platform without handing over management of their content to Ion.

In August the Ion management team reviewed its business strategy and decided to make a shift.  The new sales strategy allows content owners to retain management of their product as Ion acts as a software partner, earning a licensing fee each time the content is screened with Muséik. Within just a few weeks four new shows signed on to the new licensing program.

Together these four shows have increased Muséik’s global use rate exponentially. Simultaneously, other shows are expressing interest in Muséik, creating an opportunity for the software to gain significant industry traction over the coming years.

As software licensing agreements are developed, the Ion team will continue to build the Ion Content Library, focussing their efforts on products for school ensembles to be distributed through Ion’s new distribution agreement with JW Pepper. Together, these complementary sales strategies have the growth potential to position Muséik as an industry standard solution for synchronizing digital media in live events.


Here are some of the new shows being Driven By Muséik™

Peter and the Wolf In Hollywood. Produced by New York based studio Giants Are Small, this 50 minute family show ran with Muséik for the first time with the Des Moines Symphony on January 12. The show includes live orchestra, film, lots of sound effects, pre-recorded dialog, a live narrator and a live Foley Artist. It is easily the most complicated production Muséik has run to date, and it performed commendably. This show is already well established and has traveled the world using a different sync solution. Ion is both thrilled and proud to provide an updated sync solution to a very successful show.

 

The Mozart Effect: LIVE!™. Toronto based Linus Entertainment holds the rights to the 1990’s book and CD series that was an international craze. Now they are updating the brand by offering a live orchestral experience that has been called a symphony for the senses. Accompanied by high definition large format immersive video and visual effects, The Mozart Effect: Live!™ is curated to stimulate the senses, inspire, and engage the deepest corners of the human psyche.

 

The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci. Minneapolis based composer Jocelyn Hagen has been commissioned to write a work for chorus, orchestra, and projected visuals to commemorate the 500th anniversary of da Vinci’s death. The work will premiere in Minneapolis in late March and then travel all around the world on a 14-city tour that includes Carnegie Hall and the da Vinci museum in Florence, Italy.
